Best regeneration project

This award is for the best affordable home ownership development within a neighbourhood regeneration. Judges will be looking for developments which have successfully met some or all of the criteria below:
  • Ensured the participation of residents and stakeholders in the regeneration of their estate
  • Demonstrated a successful economic development impact in the area
  • Contributed to the community's confidence in the local living and/or working environment
  • Provided a catalyst for additional regeneration and development in the area
  • Demonstrated environmental sustainability
  • Contributed to the area's visual appearance

Affordable home ownership scheme must be part completed (at least first phase) by award entry date.

Best “stand-alone” small development - Sponsored by Devonshires Solicitors

This award recognises the challenges faced when developing a scheme that is both small yet affordable. Developments in this category must consist of no more than 30 homes in total. Judges will be looking for organisations which have successfully met the criteria below:

  • Created innovative measures to support people into home ownership
  • Provided examples of how your organisation developed its financial appraisal for this development
  • Described the factors which were considered when finalising specification and design
  • Demonstrated how your organisation performed against its original scheme objectives, including sales success

Best Section 106 partnership

This award is for the best working relationship between RSL and Developer within a section 106 agreement. Judges will be looking for organisations which have successfully met some or all of the criteria below:
  • Clearly quantified the difference this partnership made and how results were achieved through partnership working
  • Demonstrated a shared marketing approach
  • Explained any challenges and how they were overcome
  • Demonstrated how the partnership will be developed for the future and the anticipated benefits to all.

This award recognises large projects that provide not just affordable homes to purchase but also to rent, either in a mixed tenure development or stand-alone. Developments in this category must consist of more than 30 affordable homes in total. Judges will be looking for organisations which have successfully met some or all of the criteria below:
  • Created innovative measures to support people into home ownership
  • Described the factors which were considered when finalising specification and design
  • Demonstrated how your organisation performed against its original scheme objectives, including sales success
  • Provided additional facilities as part of the scheme i.e. community centre
  • Changed the tenure mix of the local area?

This award recognises the key role affordable home ownership providers play in providing alternative housing solutions to reach all groups within the community. Judges will be looking for specific examples from organisations which have successfully met some or all of the criteria below:

  • Engaged diverse groups using varying marketing mediums
  • Provided alternative financial options for diverse groups such as mortgage alternatives for its client groups i.e. Muslim mortgages or LCHO for people with disabilities or support needs
  • Increased access to affordable home ownership from BME groups
  • Provided examples of how your organisation has performed against BME targets
  • Improved understanding between young and old residents in the community
  • Demonstrated the measures introduced for effectively sustaining diversity within a community

This award is for the most innovative marketing approach within a marketing campaign. Judges will be looking for organisations to highlight a specific aspect of their marketing which has successfully met the criteria below:

  • Provided evidence of an innovative approach to the marketing of a particular scheme. 
  • Demonstrated what benefits were achieved in adopting this approach
  • Outlined how this approach added to the overall customer experience
  • Demonstrated what methods were employed to measure the success of this approach and what results were achieved
  • Described the ways in which the marketing methods used contributed to the success of the overall campaign

This award recognizes the effective marketing of an affordable housing scheme. Judges will be looking for organisations which have successfully met some or all of the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated any involvement the marketing team had from the outset and how this positively influenced the final product taken to market
  • Outlined what the original marketing objectives were and demonstrated to what extent these were achieved
  • Provided evidence of an integrated marketing campaign
  • Provided examples of marketing communications material in the marketing campaign and outline why you think these were particularly effective
  • Demonstrated how the scheme met the needs and wants of your customers

This award is for best contribution to neighbourhoods and communities made by an affordable home ownership provider. Judges will be looking for organisations which have successfully met some or all of the criteria below:

  • Addressed a need or dealt with a challenge identified by members of the community
  • Demonstrated the active involvement of the community including business and residents
  • Promoted diversity and/or social inclusion
  • Introduced initiatives to improve neighbourhood safety
  • Used innovative measures to promote affordability within the locality
  • Demonstrated sustainability through innovation in construction processes and procurement
  • Implemented community development or neighbourhood safety initiatives

This award is for the best partnership working to deliver an affordable home ownership scheme. Judges will be looking for organisations which have successfully met the criteria below:

  • Explained the context of the relationship, how the partnership was brought together and any challenges that had to be overcome
  • Explained the initial objectives and how these were achieved
  • Identified and explained the areas in which this relationship was unique
  • Clearly quantified the difference this partnership made and how the results were achieved through partnership working
  • Identified how the partnership will be developed for the future and the anticipated benefits to all

This award is for the best-designed low cost home ownership scheme in terms of appearance and functionality. Judges will be looking for developments which have successfully met some or al of the criteria below:

  • Homes designed to feel like they have distinctive character and promote architectural quality?
  • Included well defined and usable public/communal spaces and able to demonstrate that the ongoing maintenance and long term affordability of service charges has been considered
  • Given consideration to internal layouts to enhance the lifestyle of residents
  • Ensured the scale and density of the scheme appropriate to its location, providing a positive contribution to its residents and the local community
  • Incorporated features that reduce the scheme’s environmental impact into the design
  • Included measures within the design to ensure the scheme is safe, secure and accessible

This award is for the low-cost home ownership department or organisation that has demonstrated outstanding customer service. Judges will be looking for organisations which have successfully met some or all of the criteria below:
  • Provided evidence that a clear and consistent customer service policy is in place
  • Described specific training and development of staff, clearly demonstrating the benefits
  • Demonstrated an effective system for measuring and evaluating customer feedback, showing year on year improvement?
  • Provided examples of how resources have been effectively and imaginatively utilised and how staff have gone that extra mile to achieve outstanding customer satisfaction
  • Demonstrated how the full needs of a diverse community were catered for, including support to BME groups, people with disabilities, and the vulnerable
  • Described how the service offered by staff contributed to the success of the organisation in terms of performance targets

Best environmentally friendly scheme

This award is for the most environmentally friendly low cost home ownership scheme.  Judges will be looking for schemes which have successfully met some or all of the criteria below:

  • Demonstrated the innovative construction techniques used to produce an aesthetic and appealing development which positively impacts the local community.  This includes actions taken during the construction process to enhance environmental efficiencies.   
  • Demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental sustainability through existing policies, design guides and other relevant internal publications and illustrate how these have been considered for use in this scheme.   
  • Demonstrated an achievement of high environmental indicator ratings (e.g. eco-homes excellent; code for sustainable homes 4) and the methods were utilised to achieve them.   
  • Demonstrated how the design has helped to enhance energy efficiencies and reduce household costs and whether consideration also been given to affordability in relation to the long term maintenance and service charges   
  • Involved residents in the planning and implementation of environmental strategies at this scheme

This category winner will be selected by the judging panel, from all the entries.

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

This year we have added the category of 'Lifetime Achievement Award' in recognition of individuals who have made a considerable contribution tot he affordable home ownership sector. They must be/have been regarded as a leader in their field, who developed new ways of thinking and encouraged excellence. These could be people who are still actively involved in the sector or who have retired.
